Heather LaPoint, CPA

Chief Auditor

Heather has spent the last 14 years as an auditor for public accounting firms, where she gained extensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), compliance procedures, and financial analysis.

Heather earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Economics, with an emphasis in Accounting, from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 2007. She spent the next seven years climbing the ranks of public accounting from staff auditor to audit manager. During that time she worked on various not-for-profit and governmental audits, including school districts. In 2014, Heather moved from California to Texas, which she describes as one of the best decisions of her life. She was hired at a CPA firm where she continued her work as an audit manager, overseeing 47 annual not-for-profit and government audits. Heather was quickly immersed with new knowledge of Texas School Districts, as well as introduced to Texas Charter Schools.

Although she was happy with her career, she knew there was still a major milestone yet to accomplish. So in March of 2019, Heather decided to focus her attention on the CPA exam. While working full time, she studied, and was able to pass all four parts on the first attempt. In June 2021, she was officially awarded her CPA license.

Heather recognizes that she has been blessed to have such positive professional opportunities and experiences, and is excited to continue her journey with the DSS team.
